Friday brings a 15-game MLB slate with massive playoff implications all over the board. In the National League, three teams (Diamondbacks, Giants, Reds) are tied for the final Wild Card with the Marlins just half a game back.
In the American League, the Rangers moved back into a playoff spot with a stunning four-game road sweep over the Blue Jays, who are now on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, the Orioles have seen their longstanding lead atop the AL East trimmed to just one game by the Rays after the latter won the first of a four-game set in Baltimore on Thursday night.

The biggest favorite in today’s MLB odds is the surging San Francisco Giants who, behind their ace Logan Webb, are -230 road chalk against the NL-worst Colorado Rockies. Two other teams are -200 or shorter: the Houston Astros (-200) on the road at the Kansas City Royals and the San Diego Padres (-205) on the road at the Oakland Athletics. Kansas City and Oakland are separated by just half a game in the race for the first-overall pick in next year’s MLB draft.

Up north in Toronto, the Blue Jays endeavor to end a four-game losing streak that has, at least for the time being, dropped them out of the MLB playoff bracket. On Friday, they welcome the Boston Red Sox to the Rogers Centre.
Red Sox vs Blue Jays Prediction
Toronto enters Friday’s all-important matchup with the Bo-Sox as slight -134 favorites. Sitting 7.5 games back of a playoff berth and with their postseason chances on life support, Boston comes back as a +116 road underdog.
The Red Sox won the first seven matchups against the Jays this season, but Toronto answered back in early August with a three-game road sweep in Beantown, outscoring the Red Sox 25-8 in the process.
Both starting pitchers are sporting solid ERAs with Jose Berrios at 3.63 and Brayan Bello at 3.68. But it’s the Jays’ veteran who’s been better of late. In his past two starts, Berrios has pitched 13 innings combined and surrendered just four runs on nine hits while striking out 13.
The youngster Bello, still just 24 years of age, has surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits over his past two starts (11 innings) while striking out 11. Last year, Bello’s first in the majors, he was hammered by Toronto to the tune of a 7.62 ERA in three starts, surrendering 11 earned runs on 25 hits over 13 innings. His lone start against the Jays this year wasn’t much better (four runs – two earned – on six hits over five innings.
Friday’s MLB props show Berrios with a strikeout over/under of 5.5, but the under is heavily favored (+106o/-134u), while Bello sits at 4.5 (-122o/-104u). The hard-throwing Dominican may get to five Ks, but don’t expect it to be a clean outing against a potent lineup that’s hit him hard.
Red Sox vs Blue Jays Pick: Blue Jays moneyline (-136)
